An exciting year begins...

SINCE 20 YEARS, and thanks to your collaboration and help, the Fondation René Touraine:

gave 96 fellowships to researchers and clinical dermatologists of 24 different countries;
organised 19 high-level scientiﬁc meetings on skin cell functions, 8 working meetings focusing on the care of patients suffering from genodermatoses, and 3 worldwide meetings on psoriasis;
organises every year, in collaboration with the ESDR team, since 2004, a prestige lecture at the ESDR meeting;
offers a free online access to the reference book on the management of skin diseases « Thérapeutique Dermatologique » (over a million visits each year, from at least 130 countries);
facilitates the access of patients to high-quality skin care in the ﬁeld of genodermatosis thanks to the network « Genodermatosis in Mediterranean – Together Against Genodermatosis » and in the ﬁeld of psoriasis thanks to the « Psoriasis International Network ».

In 2012, thanks to your involvement and with the help of new statutes, the Fondation René Touraine will:

update and translate in English its e-book «Thérapeutique Dermatologique» with the comments of international experts;
foster the animation of the networks on psoriasis and genodermatoses through clinical and therapeutic research projects. We also plan to develop directories making available for the patients and the GPs the list of services provided in each country to patients suffering from psoriasis and genodermatosis;
reinforce collaborations with ESDR and EADV,
set up a new portal website promoting the main actions of the Foundation.

We hope to achieve these goals together.

What's new with "Genodermatoses Network"?

"Genodermatoses Network" is an international public health network launched in 2003 by Fondation René Touraine thanks to the support of one of its founding members: Laboratoires Pierre Fabre. This action focus on patients and families suffering from severe and rare genetic skin diseases in the Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern countries. Since 2008, this project has been developing at the European level thanks to a co-funding from the European Union, in the framework of the Public Health Programme through the Together Against Genodermatoses grant (TAG n°2007 335). TAG is a European Reference Network for Rare Diseases pilot project.

Together Against Genodermatoses: "Genodermatoses Network" Meeting, 13-15 October 2011, Paris, France

The Together Against Genodermatoses meeting was organized by MAGEC – Necker, the national centre of expertise for genetic skin diseases and Fondation René Touraine at Necker – Enfants Malades Hospital in Paris under the high patronage of the French Ministry of Health. Genodermatoses Training Sessions, October-November 2011, Italy and Cyprus

The Clinical Genetics Department of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics and the Makarios III Hospital held an international seminar on genodermatoses on 12-13 November in Nicosia, Cyprus. Please click here to see the programme.

The Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesu and the Istituto Dermopatico dell' Immacolata organized an international theoretical-practical course on epidermolysis bullosa on 16 November (please click here to see the programme) and a meeting about the continuity of care to patients affected by genodermatoses on 17 November (please click here to see the programme) in Rome, Italy.

TAG at the conference "European actions to improve the life of patients living with rare diseases" on 25-26 October 2011, Luxembourg

The Executive Agency for Health and Consumers (EAHC) organized this media initiative to provide an insight on what is done at the European level in the domain of rare diseases and the impact of the EU action on the daily life of concerned patients and families. TAG at the European Symposium 'Rare Diseases a model of EU Solidarity', 29 February 2012, Brussels, Belgium

At the European level, Rare Disease Day will seek to highlight rare diseases as a model of EU solidarity in today's crisis-stricken Europe. In line with this initiative, EURORDIS is organising a symposium with the European Commission, in Brussels on February 29, to showcase the successes achieved over the last decade and to discuss the way forward. The European Symposium 'Rare Diseases a model of EU Solidarity', will take place at the Residence Palace in the International Press Centre in Brussels. The TAG network will be presented. What's new with "Thérapeutique Dermatologique"?

Thérapeutique Dermatologique, reference book on the management of skin diseases in French-speaking countries (1288 pages and 333 authors) is available for free on the web since 2005.

This website receives 1 million visits a year. The visitors come from 137 countries.

The website is being updated and going to be translated into English. The English version will become an international platform for exchanging on the different strategies for the management of skin diseases. Also, a translation into Spanish is currently being studied.

Fondation René Touraine Annual Symposium

Since 1993, the Fondation René Touraine organises an annual top-level symposium on a different skin cell, presenting the state of the art on its physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacological modulation.

The 20th meeting in 2012 will be on « CUTANEOUS DENDRITIC CELLS». The meeting will be held in November 30, 2012 in Paris.

PSO 2013 - 4th Congress of the Psoriasis International Network

The next Congress of the Psoriasis International Network – PSO 2013 is coming soon (July 4-7, 2013). Check out the website www.pso2013.com to keep up to date on the major international congress for practitioners on psoriasis.

What's new with "Psoriasis International Network"?

Psoriasis International Network is a joint action of Fondation René Touraine and the EADV Psoriasis Task Force. This network was conceived as a tool to promote exchanges on psoriasis at the national level, as well as to facilitate international collaborations in the field of psoriasis.

The Psoriasis International Network in figures

The Network gathers at present representatives of some 80 countries. 48 countries are registered on the website www.psoriasis-international.org, counting 31 national psoriasis medical groups plus the SOLAPSO (Latin American Psoriasis Society) countries. 30 patient association plus the major patient federations (IFPA, EUROPSO and LATINAPSO) are also represented in the website. Over 4000 dermatologists all over the world receive our newsletter.

Psoriasis International Network Survey

In 2011, we have sent out a survey to 87 countries in the network about the organisation of their national psoriasis activities, more specifically about the existence of thematic outpatient consultations for psoriatic patients. Up to now, 50 countries have answered. Please click here to learn the results of this survey

World Psoriasis Day 2011

The World Psoriasis Day, organised by the International Federation of Psoriasis Associations, is of major importance for raising awareness about this illness. The 2011 celebrations encountered again a great success, with so many initiatives happening worldwide. The winners of the FRT fellowships in 2011 are :

Yoshio KAWAKAMI: Analysis of inflammasome in human papillomavirus associated skin disorders.

Simon John de VEER: Evaluation of novel kallikrein protease inhibitors in models of inflammatory skin pathology.

Fellowships offered for 2012 by FRT : 4 fellowships of 4500 € each (for short exchange periods) and one of 18000 € (for a long exchange period) are given towards supporting a period spent in a research laboratory or clinical department of a different country, in order to promote international collaborations.
